Willos

A personal operating system I'm building: one system, on my own hardware, for my tasks, notes and reviews, with an AI assistant I can message. The name is the logo: W, three slashes for "ill", and the ring and curve make the O and S.

What it's for

  1. Getting things done. One place for everything I've committed to, built on David Allen's GTD method.
  2. An assistant. I message it, it works on things in the background, and it checks with me before anything that matters.
  3. A record of me. What I think, value and know, written down so the system works from it rather than guessing.
  4. Regular reviews. Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly check-ins that keep the whole thing honest.

Simplified on purpose. The detailed design, including the security setup, stays private.

Principles

Local firstMy own hardware does the work. Cloud models are the backup, with a hard monthly spending cap.
Plain textEverything is markdown: portable, readable by people and machines, and still usable in 20 years.
Every change trackedThe whole system is version-controlled, so anything can be traced or undone.
Built for oneIt fits how I work. No designing for imaginary users.
Nothing importedThe assistant only runs code I've written or reviewed. No third-party plugins.
Backed up properlyThree copies, on two kinds of storage, one of them offsite.
